The photo of light streaming through redwood trees was taken at Big Basin State Park a couple of years ago. It was one of the first places I camped when I came to California and the first time I’d ever seen the redwoods.
Now with the state’s budget cuts on the butcher table this park could close along with 99 others.
An article on the closures was printed in the Sacramento Bee by Matt Weiser and photos by José Luis Villegas.

The opening of Big Basin was in 1902 making it the first park ever opened. Its closure along with the other 99 parks on the cut list would be a serious blow to our American history and culture.
